After departing from the fun there we went on to California! We had almost made it -- though we still had two long days ahead! Before we could stop for the night our Sunday afternoon drive brought us through LA where some of our amazement wore off! The roads there were awful (so bumpy that we literally thought something might fall off), the city reminded us of our own long lost concrete jungle, Houston, and the general vibe was 'sketch'. Luckily that evening we found a much nicer area to the north of the city where we stayed (again for free) at a well lit and security guarded Wal-Mart. Monday morning we passed through the Tejo (??) mountain range. OH MY. That was the most beautiful sight either of us had ever seen. As soon as we got over the mountains we hit our first ever vineyard. At this point I was "stoked"! This was our last day of driving (or so we thought) and our new home was so close I could almost taste it *insert good joke about wine tasting here* :)
We made phone calls to our newly local family and estimated our arrival time. It worked out that the Uhual where we were dropping off our tow dolly would close an hour before we could get there. Instead of heading "home" then, we stayed the night close to my brother in-law in the Bay Area. An extra night to hang out and relax was wonderful. This also meant we got to have a fresh start on our final day and arrived around 10am to set up camp. What a great first day! Since then it's been total fun and most importantly, getting to spend our days together - not with hubs away at the office.
Here's a few pics of the journey. Photos of our new home, the wine country, to come in part 4!
